A data breach notice tells you about a security incident; it does not automatically mean a settlement is open. To find a claim opportunity, identify the company and incident, locate the official case notice, and check the covered group, benefits, evidence requirements, and deadline.

Start with the company and the incident
Keep the breach letter or email and note the incident dates. Companies can have more than one security incident, so a familiar name is not enough to identify a case. Compare the event described in your notice with the settlement’s class definition before entering your information.
What proof might a data breach claim require?
Read each benefit category separately. A request for reimbursement of a documented expense may need a receipt or account record, while another benefit may use different criteria. Keep the notice, claim ID if provided, relevant correspondence, and any records connecting the expense to the incident. Avoid sending more sensitive information than the official process requires.
Separate a settlement claim from identity recovery
A claim addresses benefits under a particular case. If you are dealing with identity theft, IdentityTheft.gov offers a recovery process you can start independently. You do not need to wait for a lawsuit to finish before taking steps to secure affected accounts.
After you submit a claim

Does a breach notification guarantee a settlement payment?
No. A breach notification and an open settlement are different things. Eligibility and benefits come from the terms of a specific case. Check the official notice and claim instructions.
Where can I get help if my identity was stolen?
IdentityTheft.gov is the FTC’s recovery resource. Keep any recovery records that may also be relevant to a settlement claim, and follow the administrator’s documentation requirements for that claim.
